Unique Design Expands Dealership Functionality

Legacy Electrical Services, Inc. completed an automotive dealership for Chapman Ford in Lancaster, PA. The project repurposed portions of two existing buildings to provide a new main dealership building as well as a separate building for a reconditioning shop. The main building includes a showroom and sales offices as well as a parts room, express service drive, and service and maintenance shop. The project included a substantial amount of site work for parking lot lighting.

In order to avoid delays and costs associated with zoning and permitting requirements, the owner of the property decided to maintain the footprints of the original buildings. This introduced unique design and construction challenges as the new building and parking lot layouts were required to fit the confines of the original structures. The presence of two main distribution natural gas lines running directly through the middle of the site proved to be another difficult existing condition. Legacy worked closely with the gas pipeline owner to ensure that all excavating work near the pipelines was done with qualified supervision and that all underground conduit installations were done according to strict guidelines.

Legacy made safety a top priority on the Chapman project. The Legacy crew utilized proper PPE at all times. Hard hats and safety shoes were required for the duration of the project. Also, safety vests were required during site work activities to avoid equipment related accidents. As part of a comprehensive safety plan, the Legacy crew continually evaluated specific safety hazards with weekly onsite safety meetings and utilized additional PPE and safe work practices as specific tasks required.
